In Mormonism, this equation of, “grace plus”, is echoed throughout all of its scriptures, teachings, church publications, and prophets.

Is What We Have Now What They Had Then?

Is what we have in our Bible's now, what the original authors really said? Does the difference in the Bible Versions mean we cannot trust the Bible at all? Do textual variatians give validity to the mormon claim that the Bible is corrupt, and needed the restoration of Joseph Smith, so much so that we have a whole new book? What Do Harold Camping & Joseph Smith Have In Common?

As most of us know, Harold Camping, of Family Radio, wrongly predicted ... again ... the return of Christ. Camping's message of the coming apocalypse made national headlines, as he put billboards up nationwide, and went on the media rounds, proclaiming that the Bible absolutely guaranteed that May 21, 2011 was the absolute date that Jesus would return and rapture His church. As we also all know, this did not happen.

This is not the first time that Camping has wrongly predicted the return of Christ, and yet even knowing that, people still flocked to him with his new bit of "revelation" that "God" had given to him some how. Many people ask, "how could anyone possibly believe this guy or take him seriously, knowing that he was already wrong once before about this"? I have in fact heard mormons pose this very question.

However, mormons may be surprised to know that there church founder made the same exact prediction in mormon scripture.

Doctrines and Covenants section 130:14-15 states, "I was once praying very earnestly to know the time of the coming of the Son of Man, when I heard a voice repeat the following: 15 Joseph, my son, if thou livest until thou art eighty-five years old, thou shalt see the face of the Son of Man; therefore let this suffice, and trouble me no more on this matter."

Now, the Bible states in Mark 13:32, Jesus speaking, ""But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone."

The problem is, it is not information we are supposed to know. There is no mathematical formula, no hidden code, no contradictory message delivered to one person. We are told that NO one knows, not even the angels themselves know. When you have someone who claims that God has told them that they receive extra Biblical revelation that contradicts the Bible, you can be sure, they are a false prophet. And how can we know a false prophet?
Deuteronomy 18:22, "When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him."

This verse applies not only to Harold Camping, but also to Joseph Smith, and every other false prophet.
Joseph Smith predicted that Jesus would return in 1890, a full 121 years before Camping. He and Camping both have the same score for this false prophecy. There is no difference, they both prophesied something that God never told, and they both can be demonstrably shown to be false prophets, and you need not fear any false prophet.

The Bible says in Matthew 10:28, "Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."

God is real, His word is real, His love is real, and so is His justice. We have been given the truth in the revealed word of God, the Bible alone.

In Him ....
